MRF - Connect With Váhy

Welcome to CONNECT SERIES: 2021, where we talk to our brilliant and budding MRF founders! Here we explore the ups and downs and the wins and fails of pursuing your dream of starting a label... And most importantly the wisdom, tips and tricks you learn along the way!

This week we speak to co-founders Kate Macdonald and Anna Weatherlake about their journey at Váhy!

What do you want people to know about your brand?

For us at Váhy, as a natural fragrance house with transparent practices, we really want to educate the community on why clean and natural perfumes are a better choice. This starts by considering what is in commercial perfumes so you can make informed decisions about what you put on your skin and the health impacts of these decisions. We think that all the ingredients in a perfume products should have to be disclosed the same way all the ingredients in a skincare products must be disclosed. That way, people can make informed decisions about what scents are truly clean and whether there are harmful elements in the products they buy. At Váhy, we disclose all ingredients in our products and exclusively use premium natural ingredients so you can buy a 100% natural scent. Further, one that is without compromise on the sophistication of scent but with pure natural ingredients.

What lies in the heart of your brand and designs?

Váhy means 'balance' in Czech. While we are both Australian, Kate's family heritage is Czech. Balance was chosen as we are all seeking balance in many facets of our lives, whether this is balancing work and life; giving to your family and also working on self-care, or protecting the environment and also making consumption decisions. We think that purchasing products these days is to vote with your feet on the kind of world and environment you want to see in the future. We wanted to give our community an alternative to commercial synthetic fragrances which are made without harmful chemicals, without animal by-products and with only pure, natural ingredients. In a way, you balance the decision to buy a consumable against the ethos of buying one that is good as possible for the environment, animals and your body. This notion of balance truly speaks to the heart of Váhy.
